WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 10, 2018) – The Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA), the leading association of lower middle market private equity funds and investors, today recognized Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) for his support of small business investment and presented him with SBIA’s Champion of Small Business Investing Award. Senator Manchin is among a group of select Members of Congress whom SBIA is honoring in recognition of their support of capital access for small businesses.

“Today, I was honored to receive the Champion of Small Business Investing Award from the Small Business Investor Alliance. Small businesses are the backbone of our state and the entire nation. Our business owners, community leaders and citizens share a common goal – to enhance and maintain economic development. I have always believed that West Virginia’s small businesses are at the heart of our state and local economies. By working together, we will continue to find the common ground between business, community, and government that will lead to more economic success in our state and our entire nation,” Senator Manchin said.

“Senator Manchin has been an incredible advocate for investment in America’s small businesses through his support of Business Development Companies (BDCs) and his efforts to promote BDC modernization,” said SBIA President Brett Palmer. “Small business investors empower growth and job creation across the country, and the legislative work of our Small Business Champions in Congress has been instrumental to facilitating greater capital access for America’s entrepreneurs.”

BDCs provide critical growth capital to American small businesses to help them expand their operations and create jobs; they currently have over $67 million invested in West Virginia businesses.
